Carol B. Buonato [ - 02/09/2012]

http://www.foundsfuneralhome.com/pages/show_content.php?siteid=125&action=1&value=12&obituaries_action=2&obituaryid=115168

Carol Baumert Buonato, 70, of Kennett Square, died on Thursday, February 9, 2012.

Born on February 22, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Helen Baumert.

She was the beloved wife of Nicholas S. Buonato with whom she shared 34 years of marriage. Carol is survived by her sister Joy Grim of Saylorsburg, PA; niece Jenna Paradis of Columbia, MD; and nephew Todd Jones of Baltimore, MD.

Carol graduated with Honors in Biology from Dickenson College, Carlisle in 1963 and spent the next 22 years in medical and pharmaceutical research, most of it at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Radnor.

Around 1980 her husband, Nick, became interested in antique clocks and their repair. They joined the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) and while attending meetings Carol, seeing all the different clocks with their reverse painted glasses and painted dials, developed a strong interest in learning the art and techniques involved. She found a local teacher of reverse painting and took lessons for several years. The methods and materials used were of the period and learned about an organization dedicated to preserving and teaching those techniques, the Historical Society of Early American Decoration (H.S.E.A.D). She joined the organization as an Applicant and went on to fulfill the requirement to become a member. Later she earned a Specialist Award which enabled her to teach dial painting.

Carol is basically self taught in the art of painting and restoring dials since when she started there were no instructions or books to follow. She has painted dials for clients all over the country and Canada, has taught classes and workshops on dial painting and was chosen by H.S.E.A.D. to make a professionally filmed DVD on how to paint clock dials. Restoring and painting clock dials has been her full-time job since 1988.

Besides her profession of dial painting, Carol was interested in horticulture, enjoyed courses at Longwood Gardens and planted many flower beds around her house, receiving compliments not only from customers but by passerby who admired her work. She also was a lover of animals especially dogs and had many over the years. Having spent many years in research she knew how important it was to support research in animal diseases. Recently, her heart was touched seeing the struggle of our wounded veterans and was supporting them.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her name be made to either the Morris Animal Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.

A memorial service will take place will take place on Monday, March 19, between 1 and 4 p.m. at the Kennett Square Golf and Country Club, 100 E. Locust Lane and Rt 82, Kennett Square.

Esther Pearce Person [ - 02/03/2012]

Esther Pearce Person of West Chester, died on Friday, February 3, 2012, at age 86.

The beloved widow of Winfield Scott Person and beloved mother of Cynthia Clark Martelli (nee Person) and Winfield Scott Person, Jr., Esther was born September 10, 1925, a Mayflower descendent, and raised in Newton, Mass.

Following high school, she graduated from Katherine Gibbs secretarial school and worked for various individuals, including Archibald Cox, before marrying and raising a family.

Her husband's work took them to Europe for 7 1/2 years, where they travelled extensively, which Esther and Win continued to do in later years, including frequent Cape May and Sea Isle jaunts, annual Colorado ski vacations, and trips to New England and Canada, culminating with a trek to Eqypt and Israel.

Esther was generous with her time, working with the DAR, AAUW, and volunteering for various Chester County and other local organizations. She was also the bookkeeper and senior "employee" when Win owned the Western Auto store in West Chester, a family enterprise.

A graceful skier, avid bibliophile with thousands of books, contract bridge enthusiast and crossword puzzle devotee, Esther also expressed her creative side in arts and crafts, playing the piano, and enjoying her lovely home.

Later, disabled by Alzheimer's, she spent 12 years in assisted living and was blessedly unaware of such tragedies as 911 and the deaths of family and friends.

Esther is survived by her daughter and son, a nephew, niece, and two great-nieces.

In accordance with a long standing arrangement, Esther wished to be cremated, with no memorial service, and her ashes will be scattered with her husband's at Lake Boon, where they met.
